America's Silent Killer: Oprah and Dr OZ Want To Save Your Life

I know you all know before I even go any further what I'm gonna be griping about. Any guesses??!!?? Just one...come on! I KNOW someone has to have a idea. The time is now 10:30 and CJ just changed the battery in his pump, so it wouldn't completely die in the middle of the night. And that, was after bolusing b/c his bs is 468!!!!!!! Yes, 468! Hello ppl--that's bad. I don't care who you are or which type of D you have--that is way too high!! When I asked him if he washed his hands first, before checking himself, he said yes. I asked him if he checked for air bubbles in his tubing before he tried to bolus..."no", I said, "did you bolus at dinner??!!" his response?--wait, make sure your sitting down..."uhhhh, IDK." Now I'm sure you can once again envision the smoke coming out of my ears by now. He has to take extra insulin for every single piece of food or drop of drink---that's what I'm talking about when I say a bolus! He either does that to keep his bs from going high, or he doesn't, and then his bs does in fact go high. It's not hard to do. He just flat doesn't want to--he doesn't care!! Think he cares about what can happen if he doesn't do what he has to do? He doesn't. And here again--cuz I know there will be someone to remind me of this--he's a kid. Um YA I know this--I was there the day he was born! But you know what?? If he doesn't do this stuff and take care of himself NOW AS A KID..he will not live to see 20!!!! Not exaggerating--he will not!! Repercussions will set in. You think that's what I want for my kid? No it's not. You think it's fun to butt heads with him about this? No it's not! I know he thinks he can ignore it, and it will go away. But it's not going to. It's just not going to. Welcome to my world and my daily struggles with him and the ugly world of diabetes. I hate it. I loathe it. It's am ugly monster that I wish had never entered our lives. Now you know why I can't sleep most of the time. :0/
Last week, I had a friend at church, who is a nurse, tell me that she'd been talking to Colton some about his diabetes earlier in the day. She was trying to let him know, as we always do, that we stay on him because we love him and we do not want to see him suffer the consequences of the bad decisions to just blow off his diabetes, and not taking care of himself. She'd told me about something she'd seen on the Dr Oz show--which, if I am home and remember to turn the tv on, during that time of the day--other than something on PBS, I'll watch Dr Oz.
Here is what she shared with me--talk about a great way to depict what happens with constant high sugar levels.
Let me say upfront--I dont like Oprah. I won't watch her. The only reason that I am even sharing this, is because it came from what DR Oz had on her show that one day.
Come on people--we have got to stop letting this disease win! And every single day that our family members and friends have to suffer through this disease--OMG--the results of not maintaining are NOT good.
