Im gonna talk about something different on this post. Dads. Dad's are a special part of a kids life. At least they should be. I have been a daddy's girl since I was little bitty. And Im not ashamed to say that even at 38, I am STILL a daddy's girl. I always will be. I feel so blessed to have a Christian dad who cares about me, the choices I made as a kid, as well as now. It doesn't matter that Im an adult and have my own family--he's still concerned about me and whats best for me.
Proverbs 22:6-11 reads, "Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it." To train, indicates the first instruction that a parent gives to a child; which is his early education.Ephesians 6:4
New International Version (NIV)
4 Fathers,[a] do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.
So.....to me, a dad is to train his kids up in the way of the Lord. Be a Godly example for your kids. Don't go out partying and drinking and having a good old time, and expect your kids not to do it. Don't sit around smoking a cigarette or weed or anything else, and expect your kids to just sit and watch and not one day do the same thing. Lead by example. If you tell your kids not to do something--that should go for yourself as well.
If you want your kids to be the kind of parents they should be when they grow up--then BE A GOOD EXAMPLE to them. Don't sit around and baby them so that when they are in their mid 20's or 30's, they can't make any decisions for themselves, and always want their mommy or daddy there to pick up the pieces or bail them out.
By the time you hit that age, your parents have done their part. They have raised their kids. Don't sit around doing nothing. Get up, get a job--and keep it. Don't be lazy on the job and make it look like your working when everyone knows your really not. If your not doing your job, and you get 'called' on it, dont sit around and lie out your teeth just to cover your backside in hopes you won't get fired. And, if you do get fired, don't lie to your family about it. Tell them the truth. One little lie just leads to another one, and another, and another......and in the end, you won't do anything but hurt people.
Daddies...they love their families, and their kids and they lead by example. And the example they should follow, is that of Christ. And Christ wants moms and dads both to follow Him as an example for their kids.
Mommies...they give us life. They carry us for 9 months. They feed us, they cloth us, they take care of us when we are sick. We may not always get along with them when we
are growing up, especially in those teenage years. But, that doesn't always last and most often than not, they end up being our best friends. They are there when people let us down. They are there to listen, to comfort and to just be there....when we need someone close.
Im so thankful that both my parents are Christians and they loved me enough as a kid, to bring me up in church, so that I would learn by their example, grow up and become a follower of my God and Savior, just like they did. Im very blessed!
